KHAIRPUR, Jan 11: Nine people were killed and five others injured when armed men opened fire on labourer working in a sugarcane field in an area of Gambat on Sunday evening.

Reports reaching here said that about 15 men opened fire on 14 people of Ahmedpur town and village Maitlo Aali Wah who were working in the field, killing eight of them on the spot. Another person died on way to hospital.

Those killed in the firing have been identified as Mohammad Bachal, Naik Mohammad, Rajab Ali, Nadeem, Naimatullah, Ghulam Abbas, Zulfiqar, Irfan and Mohammad Essan. The condition of all the injured was stated to be critical. The attack is said to be related to a dispute between the two groups over a plot of agricultural land.
