PHF awaits Malaysia’s response

LAHORE, Jan 7: The Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) is expected to inform the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) about its tour to Pakistan in the next three to four days.

A PHF spokesman said on Wednesday that the federation was yet to receive any information from the MHF regarding the upcoming tour.

“The MHF is currently in the process of hiring a foreign coach for its national hockey team and after his appointment they want to consult him about Pakistan’s tour,” he said, raising doubts over the visit.

Moreover, the officials from the MHF are to meet with the National Sports Council of Malaysia on Thursday to seek permission regarding the tour.

The PHF had invited the Malaysian hockey team last month to play a hockey series against Pakistan in February.

Pakistan is looking to play against any Asian team of repute as a part of its preparations for the next Asia Cup to be held in Dubai in May. The PHF had pinned its hopes on Malaysia as no other country with a strong hockey team is willing to visit Pakistan, due to their security concerns.
