GUJRANWALA, Jan 7: A ‘proclaimed offender’ was killed in an ‘encounter’ with police, while another was arrested when he was fleeing in Garjakh locality on Wednesday. Later, an accomplice of these criminals ‘shoot himself’ when police tried to arrest him.

Garjakh police were informed that robbers snatched a motorcycle, a cell phone and Rs1,200 from Shahzad

Ahmad of Noorbawa locality and fled. Police set up a picket near Nawab Chowk and tried to stop the offenders riding the snatched motorcycle.

The offenders allegedly opened fire at the police. The police retaliated and killed Sheraz at the scene. Sheraz’s accomplice Tariq fled in the darkness.

The police chased him, arrested him and seized from him the snatched motorcycle, cell phone and money.

During the interrogation,

Tariq told the police about his accomplice, Rashid. The police raided Rashid’s hideout, but he ‘shoot himself’ before police could arrest him.

MANHANDLING CASE: The district coordination officer (DCO) has not so far been submitted a report into an incident in which a female district officer for education was manhandled by a former member of the Punjab Assembly and his men for not promoting a teacher. The DCO sought report on the incident within 24 hours.

Former MPA Abdul Rehman, Union Council Nazim Iftikhar Cheema, teacher Anwar Khan and junior clerk Zakaullah Mustafa allegedly barged in Salma Jabeen’s office on Tuesday and manhandled her.

She reported the incident to DCO Dr Pervaiz Ahmad Khan, who ordered an inquiry and appointed District Officer for Revenue Syed Sibtul Hassan and Tehsil Municipal Officer Sajjad Saqib as inquiry officers.

However, the inquiry officers had not submitted their report to the DCO till Wednesday evening. Hassan said he was busy in Moharram duties and would submit the inquiry report to the DCO on Friday.

In a related development, the former MPA and his men are allegedly telling Ms Jabeen to withdraw the complaint against them or face their wrath. As a result, Ms Jabeen has stopped visiting her office.

The former MPA however denied the allegations.

KIDNAP CASE: Tatlay police on Wednesday registered a case relating to the abduction of a grain commission agent three years after the incident on the orders of the sessions court.

Commission agent Muhammad Shabbir’s wife Salma submitted in the court that Amin Goraya and Attaullah Goraya borrowed Rs1.8 million from her husband a few years ago. She said the two men kidnapped her husband when he demanded his money back from them. She said police were not registering the abduction case because the accused had influence in the area.

Additional Sessions Judge Saleemullah Uppal ordered the police to register an abduction case against the accused immediately.
