ISLAMABAD, Jan 7: The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has devised a mechanism to monitor the performance of government schools and colleges.
Talking to Dawn here on Wednesday, an official of the FDE said that under the mechanism five area education offices – one in the city and four in rural areas -- had been established to monitor the performance of the educational institutes.
The official said the inspection teams had conducted frequent visits of the federal government institutions and figured out the weak areas for further improvement.
He said annual results of the institutions were monitored and analysed and steps were taken for better results. He added that the institutions and teachers would be given awards for their performance.
The official said that the performance shown by the Federal Government schools and colleges in the examinations was recorded in the annual confidential records (ACRs) of the head of institutions.
Online adds: The All Pakistan Professors and Lecturers Association (APPLA) has sought the appointment of the director-general of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE).
They also called for appointments of principals and vice-principals on seniority basis.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the association information secretary Prof Qasim Masood urged Federal Minister for Education Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani to appoint the DG of the directorate as the position had been lying vacant for the last many months.
He also urged the minister to issue an order for said that the teachers whose promotions were over due be promoted in their next grades.
