KARACHI: Survey of Manghopir Road ordered

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 6: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has ordered survey of Manghopir Road to verify dumping of marble waste there and asked officials concerned to initiate action against the errant factories at the earliest.

Speaking at a meeting held to review the pace of road repair and water and sewerage works on Tuesday, the nazim said a joint team of municipal services, water and sewerage board and revenue officers would carry out the detailed inspection of Manghopir Road.

The team would take legal action, if needed, against the marble factory owners found responsible for dumping of the waste on the major road, he said, adding that the city government had spent billions of rupees on the road’s construction.

During the meeting, the nazim also issued a directive for floating of tenders pertaining to construction of Shahrah-i-Qaddafi in Orangi Town from Qasba Morr to German School. He said the two-track road would be extended to the Northern Bypass at a later stage.

According to a government handout, Mr Kamal took notice of the delay in the repairing work of roads and leakages in the water and sewerage lines and directed the works and services department and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board to repair water lines and sewers, fill trenches and begin repairing broken roads.

DCO Javed Hanif Khan, KWSB MD Fazlur Rehman, EDOs and engineers concerned attended the meeting.
