KARACHI: Young man shot dead in Orangi

KARACHI, Jan 6: A young man was killed in an act of violence by unidentified persons in Orangi Town late on Monday night, police said on Tuesday.

They said Rauf Ahmed, 24, was standing near his home in Afridi Colony in the Mominabad police station limits when two men riding on a motorcycle appeared there and opened fire on him and fled.

The victim was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he later died during treatment. Quoting family members, the police said the victim had no political affiliation.

Two die in accidents

Two persons died in separate road accidents in different parts of the city on Tuesday.

Police said a young man, Sarfaraz, was riding a motorcycle when he was knocked down by a fast-moving truck near Merewether Tower.

He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he died during treatment. Police said the driver escaped.

In the other accident, a young man was killed by a hit-and-run vehicles in the Site area early on Tuesday morning.

His body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.

Seven injured

At least seven members of a family were injured when a truck ran into their house in the Manghopir area on Tuesday.

Edhi sources said the incident occurred near Qalandari Chowk, close to a marble factory, where a truck hurtling down a hillock drove into a house, injuring a couple and their five children.

Police said the brakes of the truck had reportedly failed.

The injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital for treatment.
