HYDERABAD, Jan 5: Irrigation officials have been directed to ensure water supply to tail-enders failing which action would be initiated against them.

Sindh Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Makhdoom Jamil Zaman gave these directives and warning on Monday during the inspection of Fatehpur distributary from Zero to 58-RD and Saeedabad Regulator of Hala Branch.

He asked the officers concerned to ensure proper de-silting of distributaries and protection of trees planted on embankments. He told them to lodge FIRs against people involved in water theft or tree chopping and warned of action against officials in case of non-compliance. He also ordered investigation against elements taking illegal and undue share of water by tampering with modules of their water courses or through suction machines.

The minister directed the officers concerned for de-silting of Fatehpur distributary. Growers complained of water shortage, non-desilting of minor canals and water thefts in connivance with the officers concerned.—Bureau
