Gardeners’ demo

Published January 1, 2009

LAHORE, Dec 31: Gardeners of the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) on Wednesday staged a demonstration against making their services temporary after regularisation and non-payment of salaries for the past nine months.

The gardeners displayed banners and placards with slogans demanding payment of their salaries and review of the decision to make their services temporary after regularisation.

Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Yasin, president of the PHA workers action committee, and others said the authority had made 700 gardeners regularised by the previous government temporary without serving any notice on them and had not paid their salaries for the past nine months. The PHA was not paying the minimum wages announced by the government to the gardeners working on daily wages either. — Reporter
