KHAR, Dec 30: Five militants and three civilians were killed and several others wounded when security forces attacked suspected positions of militants in different parts of Bajaur on Tuesday.

Sources said that troops used heavy mortars after militants had fired five missiles on Khar, Bajaur Agency’s headquarters, from Kohi Mor and Maram Ghundai areas.

They said three missiles landed in the Civil Colony, one near a checkpost in Fajja and another in the Siddiqabad area.

The forces fired mortar shells in retaliation, killing two militants.

Official sources said a number of hideouts on Kohi Mor and Maram Ghundai hills had been destroyed.

The sources said that three civilians were killed when a shell fell in the Tope area.

Officials said that another three militants were killed on Monday night when security forces repulsed an attack on a checkpost in the Zor Bandar area, about 18km off here.

The militants torched houses of four elders of the tribal Lashkar in Mamond.

Meanwhile, the political authorities detained 25 Mandal and Tangi tribesmen under the FCR.
