Hyderabad supports SFA secretary

KARACHI, Dec 28: District Hyderabad Football Association on Sunday gave its unanimous approval for the recent appointment of Qamar Yar Khan as Sindh Football Association’s (SFA) paid secretary.

The association held a special session under the chairmanship of former Secretary Sindh Football Association (SFA) Mohammad Azam Khan at the Wapda Union Office at Garhi Khata, Hyderabad, on Sunday morning.

The meeting was also attended by Hyderabad District Football’s elected representatives Mohammad Iqbal and Saleem Khan (Mirpukhas), Ali Bahar Brohi and Asghar Ali Brohi (Jacobabad), Imdad Shah (Sukkur), Mohammad Yaqub (Badin), Sardar Shah (Thatta), Ateeq Baloch (Tando Ala Yar) and Hasan Baloch (Jamshoro).

Azam Khan, on the occasion, said that Qamar Yar had the majority support of SFA members, adding that his selection and appointment was neither Pakistan Football Federation’s (PFF) own decision nor any individual person’s but it does include the opinion of the elected SFA representatives.

He said that those unhappy with the decision should understand that SFA doesn’t only comprise Karachi’s District South, District Malir and District West. But if they don’t respect SFA and the PFF’s choice then it is their democratic right to say so and their opinion should also be respected.

He said it was also true that in democracy, minority opinion does not carry much weight. Still those who disagree have a right to serve in the opposition for now and they can prove their majority in the next elections of the provincial body, he pointed out while adding that they must understand that they cannot forcibly change the decisions taken by a majority and if they did, it will go against the game of football.

About the current SFA President Ghulam Abbas who is being accused by several other SFA executive committee members of not discussing the nominations for the secretary’s job with the executive committee before sending them to the PFF, Azam Khan said, that he too had challenged many of Ghulam Abbas’s decisions in the past but could not do much about it as he represented the minority then.

PFF had picked Qamar Yar as paid secretary for the SFA along with other secretaries for Punjab and NWFP on Dec 18 after receiving the nominations from the provincial associations. But several SFA officials from Karachi raised an objection regarding the issue as they claimed that the person chosen for the position was holding two jobs already which went against PFF’s criteria.
