KHAIRPUR, Dec 28: Four villages face the threat of inundation as a breach in embankments of the River Indus appears imminent.

A delegation of villagers, led by social worker Sher Khan Kalhoro of Sadiq Kalhoro village from kutcha area, told journalists that Indus River has destroyed New Kuria and Faqir Mohammad Kalhoro villages during the last two years and people of these villages have moved to other areas.

He said that for the last six months, flow of the Indus is heading to Ismail Kuria, Sadiq Kalhoro, Landyon and Jalal Mangnejo villages. He said that about 30 houses have been inundated in Sadiq Kalhoro village and people have shifted to safer places.He said that during annual closure of canals flowing from River Indus during January 2009, water level in the river would go high and it might head to Sadiq Kalhoro village.

He said that they had submitted many applications to the concerned authorities who, in return, had replied that water flow would not affect their villages.

They said that the flow of River Indus is at a distance of about 1,000 feet from government school of Sadiq Kalhoro village and about 2,000 feet from the building housing a police station.

He demanded of the local administration to visit and verify the facts of their claim and only pitching stones at the banks of River Indus would not save them from massive damage that is imminent.
