KOHAT: 37 suspects arrested in Kohat

KOHAT, Dec 28: The special anti-terrorism teams of police arrested 37 members of banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan and ten caretakers and members of illegal imambargarh in KDA Town on Sunday.

The anti terrorism teams were told by the district police officer in the light of intelligence information that some people belonging to SSP and members of illegal imambargah would try to disturb peace during Muharram.

The teams conducted a midnight operation during which 14 suspects were arrested and sent to Peshawar central prison under 3 MPO as a security measure to maintain peace during Muharram in Kohat.

Four persons among the arrested people belonged to SSP whereas 10 were making arrangements to take out a procession secretly from the illegal imambargah located in KDA Town. The rest of the 23 suspects were arrested under 14 Foreign Act, Local and Special law, Pakistan Penal Code.

Police special teams also recovered illegal weapons from their possession including five Kalashnikovs, two Kalakovs, 10 rifles, 13 pistols, 300 cartridges and seven kilograms of hashish.

The DPO said that security arrangements for ensuring peace during Moharram had been finalized.

He added that close circuit cameras would be installed besides emergency alarms, deployment of special branch, district security and police personnel in plain clothes at all the sensitive places. — Correspondent
