MINGORA: Four civilians killed in Swat firing

MINGORA, Dec 28: Four civilians were killed when security forces opened fire on their car near a security checkpost in Wenai area of restive Swat valley on Sunday, eyewitnesses said.

They said the brother of former councillor Mian

Gul Jan and his three colleagues were travelling in their car. When they reached a security checkpost near Wenai area of tehsil Matta the security forces, manning the post on, opened fire on them on suspicion.

As a result all the four inmates were killed on the spot. The names of the deceased could not be ascertained so far.

EXECUTED: Swat Taliban publicly executed an alleged killer of his wife and sentenced his father to forty lashes in Manglawar area on Sunday.

“Liaqat Hussain was shot dead publicly after confession. Shah Rome, the father of the alleged accused, was also awarded forty lashes as co-accused in the gory incident,” Taliban sources said.

The father of the deceased woman had moved the Sharia court of Taliban against the alleged ‘killers’.

They were given the penalty by the Shariah court after through investigation and confession of the accused, Taliban sources added.

MILITANTS KILLED: Swat media centre claimed that 34 militants were killed in Alam Ganj area of Khwazakhela tehsil as military action continued on fourth consecutive day.

According to a press release issued by Swat media centre the security forces continued search operation in Alam Ganj area of tehsil Khwazakhela on the fourth consecutive day, killing over 34 suspected militants, including their commander Abdul Aziz alias Koti and injuring dozens others.

The release said two security personnel were also killed in the attack. An indefinite curfew has been imposed in the area for the last four days.

Most of the local people have left the area however several families are still present in the troubled region.
