KARACHI: Five killed in violent acts

KARACHI, Dec 25: Five people, including a local office-bearer of the Jeay Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, were killed on Thursday in acts of violence in different parts of the city, police and witnesses said.
The Gadap police said that the body of a 28-year-old man was found at a desolate place behind Faisal Petrol Pump near Toll Plaza off Super Highway in the morning.
They said that the victim, Mohammed Hiyat, son of Mehmood, was a resident of Mokhi, a settlement in the outskirts of Gadap Town, and official in charge of the JSTPP unit in the locality.
They said that the young man had been missing since Wednesday afternoon when he had left his house in a Suzuki Mehran car.
The police said that the victim’s car was still untraceable.
The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a postmortem examination. Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the victim was shot twice in the chest from a very close range as both the bullets went through the upper torso.
The police said that the victim’s family had taken the body to their hometown in the interior of Sindh for burial.
They said that the family would lodge a case on Sunday.
Two found shot dead
Two men were found shot dead in a bungalow at Block-6 of the PECH Society.
The bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where the victims were identified as Ghulam Asghar, 38, and Tahir Mehmood, 32.
Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section said that both the victims received a single bullet to the head.
The Ferozabad police said that the victims were watchmen of the bungalow (50-J), reportedly owned by Chaudhry Razzaq, a resident of Multan. They said that the victims also hailed from Multan.
The police said one of the victims was found in a room and the other in the lounge.
They said that the ownership of the bungalow was disputed and litigation over it was in progress. They added that efforts were being made to trace the owner.
Killed over monetary dispute
A 26-year-old man, father of two, was killed in Soldier Bazaar No 3 allegedly by an owner of a public call office who fled the scene after the incident.
The Jamshed Quarter police said that the victim, Allah Bux, had an argument with the PCO owner, Babar Khan, son of Saeedur Rehman, when he did not receive the credit of Rs100 to his mobile phone.
They said that the suspect attacked the victim with a piece of broken glass off a table cover slitting his customer’s throat.
The police said that the victim, a domestic driver by profession, was fatally wounded and taken to a nearby private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Later the body was shifted to the Civil Hospital.
No case was registered till late.
Charred body found
The charred body of a young man, stuffed in a gunny bag, was found in the morning near Bismillah Bus Stop in Korangi.
It was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a postmortem examination.
Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the body was partially decomposed as it was three to four days old.
They said that the body was charred to the extent that the victim was beyond recognition.
The sources said that the victim appeared to be in his late teens.
The body was later kept at the Edhi morgue as the victim remained unidentified.
The Korangi police registered a murder case (FIR 1131/2008) against unidentified culprits under Section 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on behalf of the state.
