Christian Convicts released

Published December 25, 2008

LAHORE, Dec 24: All Christian convicts who were entitled to special remission granted by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on the occasion of Christmas, were released from jails across the province.

Prisons IG Mian Farooq Nazeer told APP on Wednesday that for the first time in history, not even a single Christian prisoner is confined in any jail of the province for non-payment of fine.

He said all the Christian convicts who were entitled to special remission, were released immediately on the special directive of the chief minister. The amount of fine was paid by the chief minister.

The IG said sweet packets and special food will be served to all Christian convicts and under-trial as well as other non-Muslim prisoners on Christmas in all the jails of the province. He said he would visit central jail, district jail and women jail, Multan today and meet Christian prisoners.—APP
