LARKANA, Dec 24: The first death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto would be observed accordingly in Garhi Khuda Bukhsh on 27th despite looming apprehensions, said Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro while talking to journalists after attending the meeting of PPP’s Executive Committee, Larkana on Tuesday.
He said that fool-proof arrangements have been made after taking the stalk of all aspects and that the event would be held as per the schedule.
Though recent rains have dampened the soil but efforts were underway to make venue perfect for the occasion, said the minister adding that close-circuit cameras and metal detectors have been put in place for monitoring purpose. Volunteers along with police and Rangers would oversee security aspect, he said.
To a question, he replied that the administration was keeping its eyes and ears open for the security and safety of participants.
To another, the minster advised those who had compromised on the National Finance Award to stop criticising the PPP instead look into their own affairs.
Due to the shortage of transport, two shuttle trains one from Dadu to Naudero and the other from Rohri to Naudero would bring in participants whereas some activists have also booked trains from Peshawar to Rawalpindi and Naudero, Quetta to Naudero and Karachi to Naudero.
Some 12 district police officers have been tasked to look after the programme, he said.
Regarding sending recommendations to federal government on local bodies system, the minister informed the questioner that the Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has constituted a committee which would address the problem after 27th. Members of the committee are Local Government Minister Agha Siraj, Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, Sindh Minister Sardar Ah med Khan and secretaries for local government, services and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) representatives.
He said that Punjab, the NWFP and Balochistan governments have rejected local government system while Sindh government would consider the proposals.
He said that the PPP wants the system to be run and governed according to 1973 Constitution and recommendations would be made in line with the constitution.
