ATTOCK, Dec 23: Twenty-three murder cases were registered in three districts of Rawalpindi Range in November.

This was revealed at a meeting held to review the crime situation of the three districts for November.

The district police officers (DPOs) and sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) of the three districts attended the meeting.

According to details 13 murder cases were registered in Attock, five each in Jhelum and Chakwal districts.

The police of the three districts arrested 75 proclaimed offenders (POs) -- 15 in Attock, 36 in Jhelum and 24 in Chakwal districts. Similarly, they also arrested 119 court absconders -- 37 in Attock, 57 in Jhelum and 25 in Chakwal district; of the 83 target offenders, eight were in Attock, 33 in Jhelum and 42 in Chakwal districts.

The RPO directed the DPOs to gear up the efforts to arrest the remaining POs, CAs and others wanted criminals besides showing zero tolerance against gambling dens and narcotics traffickers.

The RPO also asked the police officials to take foolproof security measures at all public and religious places during the upcoming Muharram.

He asked the police officials to arrange meetings with the organisers of Imambargahs and Ulema and brief them about security plan for its implementation in letter and spirit.

EDOs absence annoys district council’s convener: Provoked by the absence of executive district officers (EDOs) and district officers of all departments the convener of the Attock district council on Tuesday adjourned the council’s session after a brief debate on different issues.

He said their presence in the house was mandatory but they did not turn up despite repeated reminders and warnings.

Nazim Maluwali Union Council Malik Riazuddin Awan complained about the partial attitude of EDO education alleging that he ignored the far flung areas while appointing English teachers in schools and an ample example of his partiality was Maluwali UC, where not a single English teacher was appointed in the schools.

He demanded appointment of English teachers in rural areas schools of the district as well.
