KARACHI: Boy killed, Classmate injured in accident

KARACHI, Dec 23: A matric student was killed and his classmate injured in a road accident in the limits of Sachal police station on Tuesday.

Police said that Zainul Abideen, 18, and Junaid, 16, were on their way on a motorcycle when a fast-moving bus of 4-L route hit them near the Gulzar-i-Hijri police station. Zain died on the spot. Junaid was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.

The police said the bus driver managed to escape following the accident.

Both the friends were students of Class X and were enrolled with Ghazi Foundation School.

Hold-ups

Four persons were wounded on resistance in separate hold-ups in different areas of the city on Tuesday, police said.

In Lyari, Abdul Qayum was returning from an HBL branch in Khadda Market after withdrawing Rs42,000 when he was intercepted by two armed robbers on a motorcycle. They demanded the cash he was carrying and shot at him when he resisted. After depriving him of the cash, they sped away.

Later, the wounded man was admitted to the Civil Hospital.

Kalri police registered a case against unidentified suspects.

In a similar incident, Mohammad Ashiq was returning from an HBL branch at Nursery after withdrawing Rs55,000 when he was intercepted by armed suspects riding a motorcycle. They shot at him on resistance and managed to get away with the booty.

In Korangi, Mohammad Shahid was shot at and injured in a cell phone snatching attempt in K-Area. The robbers opened fire and fled without snatching the phone.

The wounded man was later taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.

In Sohrab Goth, an 18-year-old boy was stabbed by phone snatchers.

Police said that unidentified persons tried to snatch a cellphone from Asad near Al Asif Square. On resistance, they stabbed him and took away the cell phone.

The injured boy was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition was stated to be serious.

Gang busted

The anti-violent crime cell busted a gang of robbers in Korangi Industrial Area on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, an AVCC team headed by Inspector Syed Moinuddin raided a place along Malir River in the industrial area.

Following a brief shootout with the dacoits, the raiding police party overpowered three suspects, David Manzoor, Rashid Masih and Mohammad Asghar. The police claimed to have recovered three TT pistols, three magazines and 16 cartridges from the possession of the suspects, who were wanted in several criminal cases, the police said.

Besides, the anti-violent crime cell claimed that five proclaimed offenders had been arrested.
