PESHAWAR, Dec 22: The Frontier lawmakers adopted a unanimous resolution against the ‘target-killing’ of Pakhtuns in Karachi and demanded of the centre to set up a commission which should hold investigation into the discriminatory measures against the poor people.
The joint resolution was moved by Saquibullah Khan Chamkani of ANP against what he called the criminal measures taken against Pakhtuns in Karachi.
He said the miscreants had not only killed Pakhtuns but also cut off their ears and noses. He said the criminals had administered poison instead of medicines to the injured Pakhtuns admitted to Ziauddin Hospital in Nazimabnad. The resolution was jointly moved by the MPAs from two sides, treasury and opposition, of the House.
Through another majority-passed solution the lawmakers demanded of the federal government to take stern measures for restoration of peace in Swat, where law enforcement agencies failed to achieve the set targets. The MPAs belonging to Swat expressed their dissatisfaction over the ongoing operation and termed it as unfruitful and destructive for the general people and less detrimental for the militants, engaged in the killings of the political forces in district.
The resolution was jointly presented by the nine PMAs and ministers from Swat district.
Reading out the resolution, Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour said that army operation had proved more negative for the general people, who were braving the violent activities of militants. “The use of military is the last option with the government and, if it too fails to restore peace in the valley, the citizens will lose their confidence in it and the valley will sink in a civil war,” he said.
He asked the federal government to promulgate the Nizam-i-Adl Ordinance, which the Frontier government had already sent to the president. In the course of this operation, he said, people had borne numerous losses, including the lives of their dear ones, livelihoods, shelters, businesses and infrastructure. He said the general people, who were the losers, had some reservations over the ongoing military operation. Through another unanimously adopted resolution, MPAs denounced the confrontational stance of the Indian government, opposition and electronic media, after the devastating Mumbai incident, towards Pakistan and termed it a bad omen for the peace in S. Asia.
They said the Nov 26 Mumbai shooting was a ghastly act, which the House condemned and expressed solidarity with the victims but the Indian government had started accusing Pakistan even before providing incriminating evidence on the tragedy.
It was Israrullah Khan Gandapur’s adjournment motion that the House had converted into a collective resolution against the unpleasant attitude of Indian government and electronic media towards Pakistan. The mover drew the attention of the House towards the vitriolic remarks by the Indian leaders and media experts against Pakistan after Mumbai shooting.
He said Indian leadership had indirectly admitted its hands in the deteriorating situation in tribal areas of Pakistan. He questioned the justification of 14 Indian consulates in different provinces of Afghanistan along the Durand Line. Opposition Leader Akram Khan Durrani, Pir Sabir Shah of PML-N, Sikandar Khan Sherpao of PPP-S, Bashir Khan Bilour of ANP, Syed Zahir Shah of PPP, Qalandar Khan Lohdi of PML-Q aired their views on the resolution.
The parliamentary leaders had expressed their dissatisfaction over the deteriorating law and order situation in the settled districts. They held the provincial police officer (PPO) responsible for the ongoing lawlessness in the province, particularly in the provincial capital, which is infested with all kinds of hardened criminals. They were speaking on a point of order raised by Ateefur Rehman of ANP on ransacking of private girls’ schools on the Warsak road sunday night.
They asked the government to replace the sitting PPO with an efficient police officer for the task. They said the miscreants had reached at the doors of Peshawar owing to the failed policies and boastings of the police chief. They said destruction of schools was nothing but a reaction to the boastings of the PPO. Pir Sabir Shah, Nighat Orakzai, Shazia Tehmas and others spoke on the issue.
Later the speaker adjourned the House till Tuesday.
