ISLAMABAD, Dec 21: Nawab Talal Akbar Bugti, chief of Jamhoori Watan Party and son of Nawab Akbar Bugti claimed at a press conference here on Sunday that the government had promised to try former president Pervez Musharraf for killing Nawab Akbar Bugti.

He said he had been told by Interior Adviser Rehman Malik that the government was considering to institute a case against Gen (retd) Musharraf not only for killing Nawab Akbar Bugti but also for other “excesses” like the assassination of Benazir Bhutto and the Lal Masjid operation.

Answering a question, he said the matter was not discussed during his meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari.

He said: “The government should work with us to nab the common culprit behind the killings of Akbar Bugti and Benazir Bhutto.”

He said he would hold another meeting with Rehman Malik to discuss the issue.

Mr Bugti said that during his meeting with President Zardari on Saturday, he handed over a 16-point charter of demands, calling for formation of an impartial commission for probing into the killing of Akbar Bugti and immediate registration of an FIR.

He also demanded a DNA test for the satisfaction of the heir of Akbar Bugti.

He demanded that the military operation in Dera Bugti and Kohlu be immediately stopped and the role of intelligence agencies in routine matters ended.

Mr Bugti called for recovery of missing persons, shifting of the offices of Pakistan Petroleum Limited to Quetta and payment of compensation to people displaced from Sui and Dera Bugti.

He said that employment in Gwadar was the right of the Baloch and outsiders would neither be accepted as locals nor should they have the right to vote.

Dr Aslam Mirza, Haji Ashraf Kakar, Hashar Ali Agha, Ayesha Shah Nothani and Rukhsana Kausar were present at the press conference.
