LAHORE, Dec 21: Expressing his resolve to make Mayo Hospital a model institution, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Sunday two `special task forces’ had been constituted for the purpose.

He said a sum of Rs200 million had been put at the disposal of the task forces for the uplift of the hospital building, machinery and meeting other demands .

The chief minister, according to a handout, presided over a meeting on Mayo Hospital matters on Sunday and said the task forces would submit their recommendations regarding improvement in hospital building, provision of equipment, betterment of canteens, parks and roads.

He said that after the building uplift and provision of machinery, an effective system would be adopted for sanitation. A company would be made and sanitation matters of the hospital would be outsourced.

Earlier, the chief secretary informed the meeting that Mayo machinery worth millions of rupees had been damaged by water leaking from bathrooms.

Dr Amir Aziz said all information regarding hospital equipment had been collected and a list had been prepared with the consultation of professors of various departments for the purchase of new equipment.

The chief minister sought an explanation from the King Edward Medical University VC regarding denial of admission to a disabled student in the KEMU.

The student had secured first position in the FSc examination. He said that rules should be amended for such intelligent students.
