MITHI, Dec 21: The Tharparkar district council on Saturday adopted a resolution, rejecting eight schemes of primary school buildings, the location of which had been changed by the EDO education.

The DCO had submitted these schemes to the council and sought its approval.

Speaking on a point of order, council members Siddiq Dal, Allah Warayo Bajir, Abdul Subhan Sodho and others said that according to the prescribed procedure, development schemes were required to be passed by the district council and later to be presented to the district development committee for final approval.

However, eight schemes passed by the district development committee had been sent to the district council by the DCO for approval, they said.

Giving his ruling, convenor Abdul Karim Rahimoon said that the schemes be rejected and if their tenders had been called, they should be cancelled till final decision.

Speaking on another point of order, some council members expressed concern over the absence of officers at the session and said that as a result most of the development schemes submitted by the members could not be passed without comments and clarification by relevant officers.

The council passed seven other schemes relating to construction of dispensaries and primary schools besides link roads to various villages. About 40 members attended the session which was adjourned till Monday.

APPOINTMENT ORDERS: MNA Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani distributed 99 appointment orders for grade-1 to 14 posts in the population welfare department among jobless Thari youths at Gymkhana here on Sunday.

Dr Malani also distributed 500 cheques each of Rs2,000 among poor people and widows of Kapusar and Sobharo Shah villages as financial assistance.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Malani said that the government had chalked out a comprehensive policy to provide jobs to jobless youths, besides providing financial assistance to needy people.

Meanwhile, food was distributed and Quran Khawani was held here on Sunday under the aegis of the Tharparkar chapter of the PPP in connection with the first death anniversary of Ms Benazir Bhutto.
