KARACHI: MQM man commits suicide

KARACHI, Dec 21: A 32-year-old worker of the Muttahida Quami Movement committed suicide in his house near Teen Talwar on Sunday.

The Frere police said that Zeeshan Hiyat, son of Maood Ahmed Hiyat, committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with his licensed pistol. They said that the body was shifted to the Civil Hospital. Following the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the victim’s family.

The victim, father of two minors, was a member of the party’s sector committee in Defence and Clifton and a maternal nephew of Mohammed Anver, member of the party’s co-ordination committee (Rabita Committee), London.

Quoting his family’s statement, the police said a domestic dispute let the young man to commit suicide in the small hours.

Later, the MQM worker was buried at Shuhada Qabristan in Azizabad.

MQM sources said a large number of party leaders and workers, including the city nazim, attended the funeral.

Meanwhile, a 42-year-old man was shot and wounded by police at Sea View.

The police said that the victim, Sarim Alvi, father of two, had been missing since Saturday. After the victim’s car was located by the tracker company, the police signalled the car to stop, but its driver sped up. The police opened fire on the car that rammed into a pavement a little ahead. The police said a woman, who was also sitting in the car, swiftly disappeared from the spot. The victim received a bullet in his head and was shifted to the National Medical Centre.

Hospital sources said the victim was in a critical condition.
