SAHIWAL, Dec 19: The Punjab government has imposed a ban on the sale of urea fertilizer after sunset.

Agriculture Minister Ahmad Ali Aulakh said this while talking to reporters here on Friday.

He said every fertilizer dealer had been asked to submit a complete record of its urea stock on a daily basis to agriculture department offices at district headquarters.

Earlier, the minister met agriculture field officers of Sahiwal, Okara and Pakpattan districts at Circuit House. He showed his displeasure over the alleged poor performance of officials in keeping a check on black-marketing of urea fertilizer. He said it was their duty to clamp down on hoarders and profiteers. Moreover, he said, a punitive action would be taken against dealers involved in such menaces.

He said the government had fixed around 20 million ton wheat production target.

He said the green tractor scheme, subsidy on agriculture machinery for poor farmers, provision of quality seeds and elimination of fake pesticides would revitalise the agriculture economy and all production targets would be achieved.
