11 bonded labours freed

KHAIRPUR, Dec 18: The Sorah police recovered 11 peasants, including women and children, who were in captivity of a landlord.

On the complaint of a woman, Ms Dhayani, a contingent of the Sorah police along with an NGO’s representatives conducted a raid at the agricultural land of a landlord on Wednesday and recovered four men, three women and three children including Nawaz, Hayat, Ms Mukaishan from a house.

The freed peasants told journalists in Nara that they belonged to Umerkot and they had come here to cultivate land but they were not allowed to go back to their village. They said that they had been working on the land without any remuneration.

When contacted for further details, the Sorah SHO was not available.

Sorah police produced the freed peasants in the court of judicial magistrate in Kotdiji on Thursday where statements of the freed peasants were recorded. The court allowed them to leave for any place of their choice. It was learnt that the peasants left for their native area Umerkot.

Talking to journalists in Nara, landlord Jan Mohammad claimed that he had advanced a huge amount of loan to peasants and they had staged a drama to avoid payment of this loan.

KIDNAPPED: Two men are feared to have been kidnapped from the Gambat area on Wednesday night.

Abdul Rehman Drigh and his relative Sadoro Drigh were going on a motorcycle from Razidero to Gambat when they went missing.

Their relatives told journalists on Thursday that they had searched for the missing men but could not find any clue. They expressed the fear that they might had been kidnapped.
