FIA uncovers $835m transactions

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Dec 17: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has uncovered $835 million in the forex scam, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik said on Wednesday.

In reply to a call attention notice in the National Assembly, the adviser said another prominent forex dealer had been found involved in the flight of dollars. “The FIA on Tuesday raided another forex agency and seized important record showing that the agent had sent $835 million out of the country,” he said.

He said data recovered from computers of forex dealers showed that Rs200 billion had been sent abroad.

“We are effectively dealing with this issue and the information available is being provided to the house,” he said.

The adviser said that as a result of FIA’s action, flow of foreign exchange through official channel had swelled by millions of rupees and the value of the rupee had appreciated against the dollar.
