Indian troops claim killing four militants

ANANTNAG, Dec 17: Indian troops killed four militants in occupied Kashmir on Wednesday and clashed with protesters as the disputed region held the latest leg of multi-stage elections.

Troops also defused a bomb in Anantnag minutes before voting centres opened in the morning for the day-long polls, a police official claimed.

In the neighbouring district of Shopian, security forces shot dead two commanders of the Hizbul Mujahideen group.

In northern Baramulla district, police said, troops shot dead two militants during a gunbattle on Wednesday afternoon.

Later in Anantnag, police wielding batons dispersed scores of anti-election protesters.—AFP
