LAHORE, Dec 17: Fancied bay mare Miss Brave Heart made amends for her previous outing’s defeat by winning the over 1,000 metres feature event during the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

The 60-to-100 favourite mare, ridden by riding boy Naseer Ahmed battled with chestnut filly Rania and the bay horse Jania Jee in the home stretch to finally win by three-fourths of a length.

Three-year-old Rania finished second after nosing out Jania Jee by a neck. Amazing Boy completed the frame among the 10 runners left in after the last-minute withdrawal of Big Bird from the event.

Owned by Rana Ashiq Hussain, the winner was trained by Rashid Latif in this seventh and last race of the day.

Earlier in the fifth race, the raging favourite filly, Miss Tabina galloped unchallenged to a comfortable success. She beat Murad King by about six lengths. Murad The Great and Kamla completed the board.

In all 10 contested the event.

The 60-to-100 favourite filly Kainat, ridden by Naseer Ahmed and trained by Haji Fazal Hadi made it three consecutive wins when she blazed her way to victory in the fourth race.

Kainat beat chestnut colt Fire King by two lengths. Princess Mehak and Ai Malangni finished third and fourth, respectively.

The dark-bay filly Fruitful, owned by Chaudhry Mohammad Qasim showed vast improvement to register her second successive win in front-running style in the third race. By any standards she was the best performer of the day.

The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards were not satisfied with the performance of chestnut colt King’s UK, who finished off the board in the second race. They fined trainer Nadeem Raza Khan a sum of Rs5,000 and stopped the colt for entering in the races for two months.

Riding boys Naseer Ahmed and Bilal Ahmed excelled among the riders. The former rode three winners – Kainat, Miss Tabinda and Miss Brave Heart while the latter brought in a brace of winners through Shandar and Fruitful.

Trainer Rashid Latif saddled two winners – Geo Bhakkar and Miss Brave Heart.
