KARACHI: Suspects in family slaughter case remanded

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 17: Two suspects arrested in the family slaughter case were remanded in police custody on Wednesday till Dec 24.

The police arrested the suspects, Zubair Ahmed, 20, and his teenaged friend, Nabeel, on Dec 16 for their alleged involvement in the murder of a woman and her three children in North Karachi.

On Wednesday, the police produced the two suspects before Judicial Magistrate (central) Abdul Sattar and sought their physical remand for further interrogation. The magistrate remanded the suspects in police custody for seven days and directed the police to produce them in court on Dec 24.

According to the prosecution, 38-year-old Seeman, wife of Jameel, and her children – Saima, 8, Osama, 6, and Ramsha, 5 – were found slaughtered in their house in North Karachi on Dec 13. It has been alleged that Zubair had masterminded the multiple murders and during the initial interrogations he allegedly confessed to having killed the woman and her three children since the victim’s husband had illicit relations with his mother for the past several years that prompted him to take revenge.

The police said that the suspects also took away cash and other valuables before leaving the house and they had recovered the same from the house of Nabeel on information given by the prime suspect, Zubair.

A case (FIR 343/08) was registered under Section 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police station on the complaint of Jameel.

Afaq Ahmed case

An additional district and sessions judge (Malir) on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice to a sub-inspector for not appearing in court to record his statement in a murder case against Mohajir Qaumi Movement chief Afaq Ahmed and others.

According to the prosecution, on July 30, 2002, complainant Zubair Ali, son of Mashooq Ali, along with his mother, Rafiqun Nisa, was coming to his home in Nazimabad in a taxi. When they reached Ammar Yasir Society near Lilly Town, three to four unknown persons allegedly opened fire on the taxi, wounding his mother and the taxi driver, Kafiluddin.

The complainant took his mother to Al-Mustafa Trust, while Kafiluddin was taken to the JPMC where he succumbed to his wounds.

The police had registered a case (FIR No144/02) under Sections 302, 324 and 109/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at Malir City police station against Afaq Ahmed, Aamir Khan and others stating that the firing incident took place at the suspects behest. The court adjourned the hearing till Jan 14.
