KARACHI: Rain centres set up

KARACHI, Dec 16: The Orangi town administration has declared rain-related emergency in the wake of a metrological office forecast for heavy rains.

This was declared in a TMA meeting, chaired by town nazim Abdul Haq on Tuesday.

The meeting was told that rain emergency centres had been set up in all the UCs for overcoming the issues pertaining to drainage of rainwater, while a control room had been set up at the main office of the town.

The officials were directed that those present at the control room must serve the masses without any discrimination. The emergency numbers of the centres are 6697869 and 6661321. Citizens have been requested to contact the officials concerned in case of any emergency.

The meeting was attended by the town naib nazim, town municipal officers, councillors, nazims and officials of all union councils.

Meanwhile, arrangements pertaining to Christmas and Muharamul Haram in Gulshan-i-Iqbal were reviewed at a meeting of officials held on Tuesday.

Chairing the meeting, acting town nazim Shoaib Akhtar directed the officials concerned to immediately finalize the arrangements, including sprinkle of limestone powder, cleanliness and lightening for Muharamul Haram. He also issued directives for cleaning of all the routes leading to Imambarghas.

The officials were also directed to ensure cleanliness and lightening arrangements around the religious places of Christian community on Christmas.—PPI
