SIALKOT, Dec 14: The Sambrial police have registered a case against 14 people for allegedly spreading obscenity through cable network in city and its surrounding areas.

The police registered case No.810/2008 under Section 293 and 294 of the Pakistan Penal Code against Nasir Warraich, Zulfiqar Sheikh and Nadeem Sheikh and others on the report of Jaithikey Union Council Nazim Ghulam Abbas Manga and started conducting raids to arrest them.

The cable operators’ association has called the police action illegal and said the case was registered purely on political grounds.

GUJRAT: The cable service in Gujrat and its surrounding towns was suspended after operators went on strike on Sunday afternoon to protest the registration of case against cable operators in Sialkot district.

The cable operators’ association said in an advertisement being played on the network that they had suspended their service to express solidarity with operators of Sialkot district and that they would resume their service only if the police withdrew the case and the SHO concerned was also suspended from service.
