KHAR: Exodus starts from Mamond: Operation rumours
By Our Correspondent
KHAR, Dec 14: Mass exodus has been reported from the troubled areas of Mamond tehsil to safer places on Saturday after rumours of possible military operation in the tribal region.
The Taliban have started digging trenches and underground bunkers at the hilly areas of the region to combat possible forward movement of security forces in the mountainous range of the restive Bajaur Agency.
Security forces were reportedly planning to make advancement towards the area, which is a stronghold of the Taliban, after consolidating their position in various areas of tehsil Nawagai.
The security forces soon after Eidul Azha paced up shelling on the hideouts of militants in the region, which created panic and fear among the locals. Hundreds of people have started migration from the area to safer places to save their families from shelling and bombing.
Residents said they requested the Taliban leadership to stop digging trenches and bunkers in their areas to save them from possible military operation, but the militants reportedly rejected their requests and continued their activities.
The local administration has beefed security and deployed troops on all entry and exit points. The people have been asked to remain indoors from 5pm to 7am to avert any untoward situation.
