Three Dawa offices sealed

HYDERABAD, Dec 11: Hyderabad police are considering recommending names of activists of Jamaatud Dawa for their inclusion in fourth schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) that would put them under strict surveillance after United Nation’s Security Council put five organisations including Jamaatud Dawa on terrorist organisation list.

The requirement of fourth schedule are that the activist could not visit schools, colleges, parks, cinemas, airports, etc., where people below 21 years of age are present unless they obtained prior permission from concerned SHO and then SHO would be responsible for their activities.

The police sealed three offices of the organisation in Hyderabad district, which were located at Tulsi Das Road, Rishi Ghat and near Jamali checkpost in the area of Hatri police station. None of the activists have been arrested. The local head of the Jamaat, Faisal Nadeem, could not be reached for details as his cellphones remained switched off.

DPO Ghulam Nabi Memon confirmed that police had sealed the offices but denied that any activist was arrested. However, there were reports that some supporters and activists had been picked-up by police for interrogation and they had not officially been arrested.

DPO also confirmed that he would be recommending names of local activists of the Jamaatud Dawa for inclusion in fourth schedule of the ATA, which would mean strict check on their movement in and out of the city. He also said that no action was being taken against sympathisers of the organisation.

INJURED: A mother and her son received bullet injuries in the jurisdiction of Qasimabad police station on Thursday when a group of activists of a political party attacked their flat in Hashim Residency.
