MINGORA, Dec 11: Militants attacked a school housing personnel of the Frontier Corpse (FC) near Saidu Sharif Airport on Thursday.

“No loss of life was reported. Some militants attacked a high school near the airport and an impression was created as if the airport had been targeted,” an official said.

The Dheri High School, which is home to FC personnel near the Saidu Sharif Airport at Kanju, came under attack from militants at around 9pm. The attackers fired shots in the direction of the school but soon fled away, the official said.

BRIDGE REPAIRED: Security forces repaired a damaged bridge here on Thursday.

According to officials, the Ayub Bridge, linking Kabal and Matta with the district headquarters Mingora, had been damaged in a suicide attack on December 4.

The bridge closure had caused tremendous difficulties for the locals as they were crossing the river in boats to bring daily items from Mingora bazaar.

ISPR’s Major Nasir Ali said that engineers of the armed forces repaired the bridge in seven days and re-opened it for light traffic.

He said that the militants had targeted the bridge to create problems for the locals and create shortage of commodities in the rural parts of the troubled district.
