HYDERABAD, Dec 6: Four people were killed and several others injured in rain-related incidents in the interior of Sindh on Saturday.
Various areas of Karachi received a heavy rainfall accompanied by stormy winds and lightning on Saturday night.
Umvi Khatoon, 18, died and three others suffered injuries when the roof of their house collapsed in the Fakir Ji Khoi village, Nawabshah.
Gulsher Solangi, 18, was talking on mobile phone on a road when lightning struck him in Moro town of Naushahro Feroze district. He died on the spot.
Four-year-old Sameera died when the wall of her house collapsed in Ahmedpur area of Khairpur district. A man was electrocuted near the Pir Jo Goth bus stop in the district.
The first spell of winter rainfall, which started on Friday night, continued intermittently on Saturday in Sukkur, Nawabshah, Khairpur and other parts of upper Sindh.
The weather turned chilly after the shower.
In lower Sindh, the weather remained cloudy throughout the day on Saturday and there was light rain in Jamshoro and some parts of Hyderabad.
Several people were injured when their motorcycles skidded after the rain.
Power supply to most parts of the province remained suspended for hours. The Met Office has forecast that the rain would continue for a couple of days.
According to farmers, the rain would benefit banana, mango, date, palm and lemon crops, but affect the wheat crop.
APP adds: The meteorological department on Saturday forecast scattered thunderstorm and rain in Punjab and Islamabad during the next 48 hours. Murree and Galliat areas may receive snowfall.
Scattered thunderstorm and rain, with possibility of a downpour, are expected in Balochistan. The quake-affected areas may also receive snowfall. A downpour lashed Makran, Zhob, Nasirabad, Kalat, Quetta and Sibi on Saturday.
Scattered to widespread thunderstorm and rain, associated with snowfall over mountain, are forecast for the NWFP, Kashmir and Northern Areas during the next 48 hours.
