SIALKOT, Dec 6: Jewellers and other traders on Saturday threw traffic out of gear for about an hour on Qila Kalarwala-Pasrur-Muridkey Road in protest against a theft incident in a jewellery shop at Qila Kalarwal, Pasrur tehsil.

Carrying banners and placards, the protesters also chanted slogans against the police. They also burnt used tyres in protest.

They dispersed peacefully when police officers reached the spot and assured the protesting traders that the culprits would soon be arrested.

Reports said that thieves took away cash and jewellery worth Rs1 million from the shop of jeweller Sheikh Jamil.

CASE REGISTERED:The Hajipura police on Saturday registered a kidnap for ransom case three years after the incident.

According to the FIR, six armed men, including Khalid alias Chitta, Malik Tariq and Malik Arshad, had kidnapped industrialist Naveed Ashiq for ransom from his factory in Sialkot some three years back. The kidnappers had released him after receiving Rs2 million ransom from his family on Dec 5, 2005.

The ringleader of the kidnappers’ gang, Khalid alias Chitta, had already been killed in an encounter with the police. Now the police have registered the kidnap for ransom case against him almost after two years of his death.

Hajipura police also claimed to have arrested two other nominated accused, Malik Tariq and Malik Arshad.
