TIMERGARA: Women barred from market
By Our Correspondent
TIMERGARA, Dec 6: An organisation of local traders displaced a banner outside a main market in Chakdara bazaar on Saturday saying that women shoppers would not be allowed to visit the shops without their male relatives.
The Anjuman Tajaran Sapna Market said that women shoppers, who were not accompanied by male relatives, would not be allowed to come to the market for shopping. Sapna Market is a large market where women from all parts of Chakdara and Malakand Agency come for shopping.
The traders said that the step to ban lone women customers was taken in view of a blast that had damaged a market in Timergara bazaar, where women used to come for shopping.
A shopkeeper said that only those women, who were accompanied by male relatives, would be allowed to visit the market.
He said they had not received any threatening letter from militants, but had taken the step as a precautionary measure.
KILLING CONDEMNED: Journalists of Lower Dir district on Saturday condemned the killing of the sister of a Swat-based journalist Sherin Zada in alleged firing by security forces and demanded arrest of the killers.
Office-bearers of Timergara Press Club held a meeting and denounced the growing incidents of violence. They demanded of the government to provide security to journalists and their families.
The meeting was attended by press club president Rohullah Shakir, Amjad Ali Shah, Khalid Mehmood Butt, Abdullah Madani, Shahid Mehmood, Ihsanullah and Rahmatullah.
