RAWALPINDI, Dec 5: Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), who snatched a bronze medal for the fifth successive time, finished their quota of 26 matches in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) when they drew 1-1 with Pak Elektron Limited (PEL). Meanwhile, Punjab Medical College (PMC) earned a 2-1 win over Pakistan Television.
Chitral-born Mohammad Rasool, well on the way to grab the top scorer’s award of Rs50,000 on Saturday, fired his 22nd goal of the event to give KRL the lead in the 55th minute. He took the return ball from another Chitral-born midfielder Zia-us-Salam to beat the keeper with a flick on header. But their lead was short-lived as 80 seconds later, PEL drew level through a penalty kick.
FIFA Referee Shafaat Habib penalised KRL’s right fullback Ghazi Khan for clumsy tackle over PEL’s skipper Ijaz Sarfraz and the cool penalty-taker made no mistake in sending a full-blooded shot in the right corner, leaving keeper Asim Khurshid in no man’s land.
KRL, who drew 0-0 with PEL in Lahore’s first leg, could have scored the winner but Mubarak thwarted the moves of Mohammad Qasim and substitutes Aseed Saeed and Jahanzeb khan in the final 15 minutes.
Two penalty-kicks were utilised when PMC overwhelmed PTV 2-1 at the PSB Ground, Islamabad. PMC took the lead through midfielder Muneer Ahmed in the 29th minute but winger Ali Shair replied to make it 1-1 in the 57th minute with a penalty-kick conversion. Skipper Haroon Yousof slotted the winner from the penalty-mark in the 66th minute.
The PPFL final match will be played between Army and Wapda at the Army Sports Complex, Rawalpindi, at 2.00pm.—Agencies
