KARACHI, Dec 4: Delegations of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazlur Rahman group) and Sunni Tehrik called on Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah separately at the Chief Minister House on Thursday.

Leaders of both the parties assured the chief minister of their full support and cooperation in maintaining law and order in the province, especially in Karachi.

JUI-F leader Qari Sher Afzal and Sunni Tehrik leader Shahid Ghauri in their separate meetings with the chief minister urged him to take stern action against anti-social and terrorist elements playing havoc with the peace in the city.

The chief minister told the delegations about steps being taken for keeping peace in Karachi and thanked the JUI-F and the Sunni Tehrik for their all-out cooperation.

He said the government would fulfil its responsibilities at all costs and anti-people elements would be taken to task.

He informed them that the situation remained peaceful on Thursday and no untoward incident took place.

The delegations were told that peace committees would be set up at police station level for immediate action. The police station peace committees, the chief minister pointed out, would also keep a watch on police stations and immediate action would be taken against SHOs in case of any complaint against them.

He said all parties would have representation in peace committees.
