Pakistan Steel edge past KESC

Published December 3, 2008

KARACHI, Dec 2: Pakistan Steel edged past Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) 3-2 in one of the concluding Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches played at the Peoples Sports Complex on Tuesday.

The match began on a defensive note with both equally-matched sides on high alert. It was only in the final minutes of the first half, the 37th minute precisely, when the field warmed up to see Steel’s striker Abdul Wahab converting a pass from midfielder Karim Bakhsh.

KESC’s keeper Zulfiqar wasn’t really prepared for this.

Then in the 41st minute, Wahab created an opportunity for fellow striker Mohammad Bakhsh. His cross from the left was steered in by Bakhsh with keeper Zulfiqar stranded again.

The score at interval was 2-0.

Steel got their third goal in the 55th minute through Wahab’s solo attempt. The striker penetrated KESC’s defence single-handedly to bring the score line to 3-0.

It was only then that KESC got going. Their first goal came through their midfielder Sohail Nawaz in the 57th minute with assistance from left-winger Abdul Ghafoor. KESC’s second goal came in the 68th minute through winger Mohammad Omar. Both outfits have now completed their quota of 26 matches. KESC have 30 points while Steel have 29.

Wednesday’s fixtures:

Khan Research Laboratories v Punjab Medical College at KRL Stadium, Rawalpindi; Pakistan Television v Pak Elektron Limited at PSB Ground, Islamabad; Navy v Wapda at Naval Complex, Islamabad. Matches kick off at 2.30pm.
