Strike in Khairpur

KHAIRPUR, Nov 27: A strike was observed in parts of Khairpur city on Thursday in protest against an armed attack on a mosque in Luqman area on Wednesday. Reportedly three people were injured.

The strike was observed in Luqman, Luqman Railway Phatak Chowk, Nao Goth, Mariam Taup chowk, Katchehry road.

Some youngsters forced shopkeepers to close down their shops in Luqman Phatak area but they refused. In the meantime, police reached there and took into custody three people namely Zafaryab, Mehdi and Ali Zia.

On Wednesday evening a group of armed men opened fire on a mosque at Hussaini Chowk resulting in injuries to Hakeem Mukhtiar, Ghulam Qambar and Imran.

Sukkur DIG Bashir Ahmed Memon reached Khairpur late in the night and visited the place of incident. He met with the leaders of two sectarian groups and held talks with them to maintain peaceful atmosphere.

Police sources said that the DIG had ordered an inquiry into the incident. However, no case was registered till the filing of this report.
