KARACHI: Robbers convicted

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 27: A judicial magistrate on Thursday sentenced two men to three years in prison for robbery.

The judge pronounced the verdict after recording final arguments from both sides.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 each on Murad and Asghar. In case of non-payment of the fine, they would undergo an additional one-month imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, the men were arrested in 2006 for their involvement in a robbery case in the limits of Taimuria police station.

The judge in its verdict observed that the prosecution had successfully established its case against the convicts by producing ample evidence in court.

A case (FIR No.81/06) was registered against them under Section 392/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Taimuria police station.

Meanwhile, the district and sessions judge (south) on Thursday adjourned the hearing of bail applications of Munaf Kalia and Javed Khanani till Dec 2 since the newly-appointed counsel for FIA sought time.

He told the court that he had replaced Ismat Medhi and requested the judge to grant him time as he had not studied the case.

The Federal Investigation Agency arrested the suspects on Nov 7 for allegedly illegally transferring foreign currency from the country.
