TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 26: Four administrative secretaries of provincial departments on Wednesday inspected different government installations and ongoing projects in this district to get first-hand knowledge of public grievances.
On Tuesday, the chief secretary assigned each tehsil of this district to two administrative secretaries to visit these areas personally and compile a report to resolve the grievances.
During his sudden visit to the DHQ Hospital, environment secretary Dr Zafar Nasrullah expressed his displeasure at unhygienic condition of hospital’s washrooms.
The hospital medical superintendent (MS) and his deputy belied secretary’s observation on which the secretary made the two officials to remain in the washrooms for 10 minutes to ascertain whether or not the washrooms were filthy. When the MS and the DMS were asked to come out, they had every reason to believe that the secretary was right.
The secretaries also visited various bazaars to check the availability of 100-gram Roti at Rs2 at tandoors where a 20kg flour bag was being supplied at subsidised rate of Rs250.
They also inspected under-construction buildings to check the material and cleanliness in hospitals and government offices.
Mineral development secretary Rao Manzar Hayat inspected a government school in Chak 435-JB in Gojra tehsil. He found that substandard material had been used in the construction of the building. He ordered the officials concerned to get a case registered against the contractor.
Later, Hayat held a meeting at the office of the deputy district officer for revenue where he directed tehsil officers to monitor the construction of government buildings. He also visited Gojra’s eye-cum-general hospital.
Education secretary Azhar Shamim visited the Government Girls College in Pirmahal. He also visited tandoors to ensure availability of roti at Rs2.
During his visit to the local veterinary hospital, livestock secretary Jehanzeb Khan said a plan was under consideration to set up modern laboratories at district level to store the semen of finest breed of cattle.
He directed the officials concerned to send him data of all dairy farms of the district so that vaccination and provision of modern techniques of cattle farming be provided to farmers. He also said the government was considering providing a storage tank in every village to help farmers save their milk from being spoiled.
He directed the hospital in-charge to demolish the dilapidated building and convert the vacant place into a grassy ground.
Dr Shagufta Shahjehan, who is director-general of the environment protection department, said that ‘taat' culture would be eliminated from all schools of the province.
Inspecting schools in Chak 323-JB and Awami Basti, she said that all school projects executed by the National Logistics Corporation included 12 per cent budget to purchase furniture to eliminate ‘taat’ culture. NLC project manager Major Abdul Rehman accompanied her.
