HYDERABAD, Nov 26: While a joint police team of Nawabshah and Hyderabad districts, headed by DIG Hyderabad, have picked up several suspects, including a man accused of kidnapping EDO Health of Tando Allahyar Dr Abdul Jalil Bachani, no fruitful result could be achieved.

A Nawabshah-based police source said that they had not been able to break accused Kashmir Khan, who was injured in a post-kidnapping encounter with police. “He is a hardened criminal and is misleading us by providing wrong information” admitted the source.

He said that places disclosed by him for carrying out raids were wrong. “He is not giving us proper lines for investigation and this is my honest assessment”, he confided.

His assertion was also endorsed by an investigating officer of Hyderabad. “He (Kashmir Khan) is just sleeping. But we are working on our own”, he claimed.

Khan had, however, disclosed the names of his accomplices who were involved in kidnapping. He told the police names of Aitbar Solangi, who owns the truck in which Bachani was kidnapped, Haji Wakeel Khokhar, a peasant of an influential landlord who is Khokhar by caste and holding hostage in captivity.

Hyderabad police believed that gang of Ali Bux Loond, who operates in Larkana and other parts of upper Sindh, is involved in the kidnapping. The names of Loond’s maternal nephew Ali Sher and one Jurio Khatio, were also disclosed during the interrogation.

A case of kidnapping is lodged with Husri police station. Bachani was kidnapped from the Hatri area on November 22 while he was returning to Tando Allahyar from a marriage ceremony in Hyderabad along with his wife and driver. They were whisked away in a truck but after covering some distance the driver and his wife were freed. Bachani’s car was found abandoned near Isra University but he was taken away in a truck.

Soon the kidnapping was followed by an encounter in Nawabshah in which one bandit, Akbar Hab alias Wahid Bux was gunned down while his accomplice Kashmir Khan Marri was nabbed. He received bullet injuries.

Nawabshah police also picked up many people belonging to Loond and Rind clans for interrogation. Most of them have been handed over to Hyderabad police.

It was learnt that Nawabshah police have conducted raids on the place disclosed by Hyderabad police but in vain.

Hyderabad police have also picked up around 20 suspects and they are currently in police remand and being grilled. “We are hopeful that we will make some headway very soon”, claimed DPO Hyderabad Ghulam Nabi Memon. He, however, didn’t share more details of the case.
