KARACHI: Diabetic children

Published November 27, 2008

KARACHI, Nov 26: The National Institute of Child Health is extending education and disease management support to about 500 registered children suffering from diabetes with the cooperation of an NGO.

This was stated by head of the medical unit-II Prof Jamal Raza at a function held on Wednesday in connection with the World Diabetes Day, which is observed across the globe on Nov 14.

Speaking to a gathering of children and parents, Prof Raza said that the number of diabetic cases was on the rise all around the world. He said there were more than 61,000 diabetic children with type-1 DM though only a few thousand of those had been diagnosed so far. He highlighted NGOs’ role in the healthcare facilities and said that Atfaal Welfare Society had been launched to provide free treatment to diabetic patients registered at the NICH.
