Canal breach damages crops, houses

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Nov 24: A 100-foot breach occurred in Lundki minor canal near Moro on Monday, damaging crops spreading over hundreds of acres besides seven houses.

After the breach, water has accumulated around five villages viz; Mohammad Bux Leghari, Achar Machhi, Azeem Brohi, Laiq Zardari and Ghulam Qadir Zardari. Moro-Bandhi road was also flooded.

As a result of breach wheat, paddy, sugarcane, chilly crops standing on 250 acres came under water.

A villager, Inayatullah Leghari, alleged that the irrigation officials were not carrying out regular maintenance work which caused the breach.

He alleged that the SDO irrigation reached the spot after about 10 hours but failed to arrange crane and other equipment to plug the breach.

The villagers and irrigation officials temporarily plugged the breach after gates at Dad Wah regulator were closed.

ACCIDENT: A teenaged boy was killed in a road accident on Moro bypass on Monday.

Dildar Panhwar 10, student at Mithiani Madressah, left the madressah Gulzar-e-Mustafa and reached Moro.

As he was crossing the road, a car hit him as a result of which he died on the spot. The body was brought to taluka hospital Moro and was handed over to relatives after post-mortem.
