KHAIRPUR, Nov 24: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz and the Jeay Sindh Students Federation observed a token hunger strike here on Monday in protest against killing of four students in police firing.

A large number of activists of JSQM and JSM set up a hunger strike camp at court road and raised slogans against Khairpur police for not arresting the police officials who were nominated in the murder case of three students namely Zameer Hussain, Allah Dino and Gul Baig, all Jagirani by caste. They had been killed reportedly in police firing in Mithal Jagirani village, Gambat taluka, on November 16.

The JSQM chairman Bashir Qureshi, JSSF president Nisar Lakhair and other leaders of JSQM and JSSF also joined them. Mr Qureshi told journalists that the police killed the three students in broad day-light and also injured three villagers.

He added that though the FIR was lodged but the nominated police officials were still roaming free.

He added that some time ago even another student Raja Jatoi was killed by police in a managed encounter in Dandho Jatoi village and his family did not get justice despite promises made by high-ups of the police. He said that all this is being done in the democratic government of PPP, who claim to have belief in the people’s power.

He added that the situation of Sindh was very serious as a great number of people were living below poverty line and there was a large number of unemployed people whereas PPP was making announcements for construction of Bhasha dam which was a conspiracy against Sindh. He announced to launch a protest drive against construction of Bhasha dam.

Mr Qureshi termed Sindh Assembly toothless and added that all the waderas, pirs and landlords had gathered there with a united stand to loot the resources of Sindh for their personal interests.
