KARACHI: Razvi, Munir retain top SHCBA slots

KARACHI, Nov 23: Justice (rtd) Rasheed A. Razvi and Munirur Rehman were re-elected as president and secretary of the Sindh High Court Bar Association on Saturday.

Both had been active in the lawyers’ movement for restoration of the judiciary. Mr Razvi, who defeated his main rival, former SHC judge Khwaja Naveed Ahmed, by a wide margin, would serve a second consecutive term while Mr Rahman had been voted for a third term.

Incumbent Vice-President Z.K. Jatoi was re-elected to the office while Akhlaq Ahmad Khan and Asim Mansoor Khan replaced Sarwar Mohammad Khan and Mrs Tayyaba Jabeen as treasurer and joint secretary, respectively.

Azizuddin Qureshi and Shafaat Hussain tied for the membership of the managing committee and would serve six months each. Others elected to the committee are: Khaleeq Ahmed, Khalid Hamid, Majid Noman Khan, Mohammad Ismail Memon, Shahid Anwar Bajwa, Ms Shahnaz Ishtiaq, Sohail Mehmood (Sohail Abbas) and Tanvir Sibtain Mahmud.

Deposed chief justice of the Supreme Court Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry phoned Mr Razvi from the United States to congratulate him and other office-bearers on their victory. Supreme Court Bar Association President Ali Ahmad Kurd, former SCBA chief Muneer A. Malik, Pakistan Bar Council member Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari, Karachi Bar Association President Mahmoodul Hasan, Lahore High Court Bar Association President Anwar Kamal and Rawalpindi High Court Bar Association President Sardar Asmatullah also felicitated the new office-bearers.
