KARACHI: Charge-sheets against Tessori rejected

KARACHI, Nov 22: An investigation officer on Saturday submitted charge-sheets of three cases registered against a gold trader, Kamran Tessori, to the office of the deputy public prosecutor, south, who rejected the charge-sheets on the grounds that the entire procedure had been done in violation of Section 165 (search by police officer) and 166 (when officer in-charge of police station may require another to issue search warrant) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The IO was asked to submit a Class C report.

The prosecutor observed that the suspect was in the custody of the Docks police when, according to the police, he disclosed during interrogation that drugs and unlicensed weapons were present in his office, situated at Zaibunnisa Street in the limits of the Preedy police station.

The DDP, Abdul Maroof, was of the view that the Docks police ha conducted the raid and claimed having recovered the drugs and weapons without seeking permission from the SHO concerned.

Kamran Tessori was arrested upon his arrival at the Karachi airport from Islamabad on Nov 5. The prosecution said he, along with his associates, had attacked a police party with firearms on July 25 at Hawkesbay beach to avoid being arrested in a case registered against him in Badin district.

A case (FIR No. 112/08) was registered on behalf of the state against Tessori and his associates under sections 324 and 353/34 PPC at the Docks police station.
