Zardari seeks cooperation of traders


KARACHI, Nov 21: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday sought the cooperation of the business community, and said that in the prevailing situation, they should play their role to help strengthen the economy.

Talking to a delegation of the business community at the Chief Minister’s House, the President highlighted the political situation in the country, and spoke about the measures being taken for creating an atmosphere of goodwill and reconciliation.

“We should engage all our energies and resources for the betterment of economic conditions and for the betterment of our future generations,” the president said.

Mr Zardari stressed the need for public-private partnership, and said that the present government has made China as a role model for economic planning, and “we should follow its policies for economic development.” He informed that China wanted to invest in the banking sector.

Representing the businessmen, Siraj Qasim Teli and the KCCI president informed the president about the problems faced by the business community, and stressed the need for a regular interaction between the government and traders.

The businessmen also urged the government to check inflation and cut electricity and gas tariffs.—PPI
